Crawford County E911's History

Emergency communications / radio dispatching originated with the sheriff John L Giles in the late 1960’s.

Mid 80’s the sheriff had a database of some resident TN’s in Crawford County, using caller ID, then searching the database for the TN… Voters approved an 1/8 Cent sales tax for the 911 Emergency Phone Service, Crawford County begin collecting this revenue in 1995-1996.

The Emergency 911 Phone Service began operation January 1, 1997.

November 1997 Crawford County residents were asked to increase the sales tax from 1/8 cent to ¼ cent to generate enough revenue to pay for basic services to meet increasing cost of operation.

Crawford County E911 Communications began collecting this new revenue in January 1998.
